The MgSafe General Assembly, Supervising / Scientific Advisory Boards Meeting and training in Pisa, Italy, took place from 8th to 12th of June 2020.

The training in Hannover is a workshop on writing skills and good scientific practice, in addition, enhancing and supplementing the workshop in Graz @ MUG, December 2019.

X-Ray vision in 360° - Within the EU project MgSafe Hanna Slominska and Kamila Iskhakova are doing their PhD at the HZG, but conduct their experiments at the HZG outstation at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron DESY. They use the special X-ray light at the beamlines there to make even the smallest material processes visible. These investigations help to monitor the degradation of the magnesium implants and the regeneration of the surrounding bone at high resolution. This is of particular importance as the implant is required to yield sufficient stability during healing and should quickly be dissolved afterwards.

This MgSafe Workshop and Training has been cancelled due to travel restrictions. The corona virus has caught up with us.

Original program: This training event is on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Photoacoustics & Ultrasound Imaging including a media training especially for the ESRs.

PedMedDev - The Hub for Pedratic Medical Devices. The overall goal of the PedMedDev Hub is to promote and improve medical devices for our children.

Regulatory requirements, high development costs, a small market share and insufficient remuneration hinder the development of child-centered medical technology, although it is precisely they, and with them society, that would benefit most.

The mid term meeting is basically a meeting between the ESRs and the REA representative. This meeting took place at Medical University of Graz from 2nd to 6th of December 2019 and is intended to allow the researchers to discuss with the project officer (PO) about their experiences within the network in terms of training foreseen, supervision arrangements, progress and impact on their future careers.

MgSafe is happy to have successfully recruited 15 highly skilled ESRs on a 36-month full-time contract - all working to develop the next generation of safe imaging facilities for biodegradable metal implants. 10 of the 15 early stage research positions are filled by women.

The Workshop on "Mg alloy design and processing: degradable implant materials, basics in metal physics and corrosion" took place in Brüttisellen, Switzerland, from 23 to 27 September 2019.

The 11th Symposium on Biodegradable Metals in Alicante, Spain, from 25 to 30 August 2019, has been a great success.

Assoz. Prof. Dr. Annelie-Martina Weinberg mentioned, that the symposium truely emphasized its academic-conference-style with an openly discursive format.

The Biometal 2020 onsite edition has been cancelled due to CoViD-19. So the 12th Symposium on Biodegradable Metals in Alicante, Spain, planned from 24 to 25 August 2020, became a virtual workshop.

Together with the MSCA ETN BioImplantITN MgSafe organized an additional mini symposium at the 12th BIOMETAL on Friday 28 August.
